The Nicaragua Project

The Nicaragua Project is a community to community ministry that seeks long-term involvement from individuals to be participants in on-going projects in Nicaragua that foster life, give hope, and help to bring about a world where peace and justice are attained in tangible ways. It is a ministry of the Outreach Committee of Christ United Methodist Church.

Four years ago we made a commitment to help underfund a school, "Centro Alternativo projecto 19 de Julio," in a very poor neighborhood in Managua, Nicaragua. The school was in desperate need of a full-time administrator, and we are now approaching our third year of funding his salary. One of our own members, Kelly Chieng, is in Nicaragua volunteering for 6 months at the school teaching English, Art and Music. She's doing an amazing job, and the children love her. This December we will send a group of youth and adults to Managua to work on painting the exterior of the school, do some repair work, and get a room ready that will be an "Internet Cafe" for the school and community.

There are other ways of serving. We need summer clothing for adults and children, computers (especially laptops), a video projector, and any kind of kitchen utensils and silverware.
