Children

At Christ United Methodist Church, we value children. They are an important part of the congregation. We seek to teach and lead children in the faith, but we also affirm the gifts of children to lead and serve.

Super Sunday
 
“Super Sunday” for children happens every Sunday at Christ United Methodist Church. Look at what you and your children can anticipate.
 
Sunday School provides age-level classes that are offered for children from two-years through sixth grade. Children age two through 6th grade study the United Methodist curriculum "ROCK SOLID - Building a Heart of Faith." All Sunday school classes are held at 9:45 a.m.

Children's Church
 
Children’s Church is offered during both morning worship services for children age 2 to pre-K. Children leave the worship service following the children’s sermon and go to room 117 for a learning time with adult volunteers. Children who wish to remain in the worship service are welcome to do so.
 
Worship bags filled with quiet activities are available for use during the worship services. Bags may be picked up in the narthex. There are separate bags for older and younger children.
 
Nursery care is provided on Sunday morning and for all church-wide events. We welcome babies and toddlers from age 6 weeks up to 2 years old. Trained child-care workers care for infants/toddlers.
 
BANANA (Believers Are Never Alone Nor Abandoned) Club
 
BANANA Club is fellowship time for fifth and sixth graders on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from 5:30-7:15 p.m. Bible study, crafts, dinner and games make a fun evening.
 
2nd Sunday
 
2nd Sunday is a special learning time for kindergartners through first graders. On the second Sunday of each month, children are dismissed after the Children’s Sermon to attend a special class to learn about the sacraments and other aspects of worship and church life.
 
Wednesday Night Together
 
Our child care staff is ready to take the children at 6:15 p.m. to allow parents to finish their meal and have adult conversations. Child care and children's activities are provided throughout the evening. Children's Choirs resume September 3 (6:15-6:45pm)!
  • Mustard Seed Choir - 3 year olds through Pre-K, will meet in room 115.. After choir, the children go enjoy time with our wonderful child care staff.
  • Angel Choir - 1st and 2nd graders, will meet in room 120.
  • Spirit Singers - 3rd through 6th graders, will meet in room 124.
  • Nursery Care is provided for children who are too young for the children's activities. Child care is provided for all children whose parents are a part of the adult choir which meets for practice on Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Older kids will be in room 126 and infants to 2 years old in room 122.
Special Events and Activities
  • Adopt-a-Grandparent links children with older adults in the church. Activities are planned throughout the year.
  • Vacation Bible School is a week-long program of learning Bible stories, making crafts, learning music and new games and enjoying special treats.
  • Choir Camp has children learning and producing a musical in one week and performing it in worship.
  • Blessing of the Animals is offered in October of each year. Pets come to the pavilion and receive a blessing from the pastors. We have a brief service for Blessing of Animals taken from our United Methodist Book of Worship.
  • Children’s Sunday features children leading worship.
  • Confirmation Classes for 6th graders (and older youth who wish to participate), led by the pastors, run from October through May of each year. Through class sessions and field trips young people explore their faith and learn about United Methodist beliefs. Confirmands work with mentors outside of class.
  • Acolyte program for 3rd through 6th graders prepares youngsters to light the candles in worship.
  • Created By God Sexuality Study for 5th and 6th graders is held every other year.
  • Advent Fair (Nov/Dec) and Epiphany Fair (January) are intergenerational events.
  • Super Summer activities are fun times for children and their families. A favorite is the “Daddy and Me Drive-in" for preschool children, which includes decorating a cardboard car and watching a movie together.
  • Trunk or Treat at Halloween is a fun time for church members to decorate their cars and hand out treats to the children.
  • Stewardship Bags teach children about tithing.
  • Baby’s First Christmas is celebrated as an ornament is presented to the family.
  • Lent Bags teach children about the season of Lent.
